OZEV Home Charge Grant

The UK government's OZEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) offers grants of up to £350 towards the cost of installing a home charger. To qualify you need:

  • Own an eligible EV or plug-in hybrid
  • Have off-street parking (driveway, garage, or dedicated parking space)
  • Live in a flat, apartment, or rented property (homeowners with detached houses are no longer eligible since April 2022)

Your installer applies for the grant on your behalf — it's deducted from the installation cost.

Installation Costs

A typical home charger installation costs £800-1,200 including the unit. This covers:

  • The charger unit itself (£500-950)
  • Standard installation (£200-400)
  • Consumer unit upgrade if needed (£150-300 extra)
  • Cable run beyond 10m from fuse box (£5-10 per extra metre)

Home Charging vs Public Charging

Home charging on an overnight tariff costs just 7-12p/kWh — that's 2-3p per mile compared to 17-23p per mile at a public rapid charger. For 10,000 miles per year, home charging saves £1,200-1,500 compared to rapid charging only.

Which Charger Should You Choose?

  • Best overall: Ohme Home Pro — best smart tariff integration, competitive price
  • Best for solar: myenergi Zappi — unmatched solar diversion with three charging modes
  • Best budget: Wallbox Pulsar Plus — full smart features at the lowest price
  • Best design: Easee One — smallest and most minimalist
